What we could’ve done better
It was collective efforts to pull off a project like this, even though project team is under resourced, we have parallel projects running at the same time.
There are still many usability issues needed to fix after product launch, team has already put all issues into prioritization list.

Challenges we faced
In the beginning of the project, there were many initial discussions about the definition of cover screen - based on device characteristics, how should we position it, should we keep the consistent interaction as main screen, or customize it, and to what degree.
The cover screen on Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has features barely usable, most of the time act as fashion item, showing status because there aren’t still many people own foldable mobile devices. From user interview sessions, we know that people desires more. For a even larger screen, they expect to have more functionalities.
However we have to consider hardware constrains, since FindN2 Flip is the first generation of foldable mobile device for OPPO, the screen resolution can’t achieve the best quality, it has potential display issue, so we need to make sure design as simple as it can be.
Another challenge we face is battery, It can get hot when using device for longer time.
Because the cover screen ratio looks a lot like smaller version of main screen, users subconsciously think it should behave the same as main screen, but we cannot have the same design because of proportion.

The Challenge
System Design Manager, leading the experience design for two flagship hardware products: the FindN2 and FindN2 Flip. For the foldable series specifically, I led design strategy for the cover screen experience — defining interaction principles for a hardware category with no established UX playbook.
My Role
FindN2 and FindN2 Flip launched in December 2022 and quickly became the No.1 foldable device in China. The FindN2 Flip won the iF Design Award 2023 and received international media coverage including The Verge. At the design system level, formulated design principles for foldable phone at that time.
